How did you get involved in the creative and digital staffing space?
Like many others, my journey into the creative and digital staffing space started when I was searching for a new role. The recruiter I met with suggested that I may like recruiting. She was right, and the rest was history.
How would you describe your career trajectory over that time?
Since being in the staffing space for over 10+ years, I've seen many different milestones and highlights. My career began in the recruiter seat where I spent over 4 years working with amazing candidates to find them their dream job. I always had a curiosity and love for building relationships with clients which led me to make a switch to the account management side. After 4 years of being 1:1 with clients and solving complex problems (you see a pattern here!), I decided to move into enterprise sales focusing on the retail and CPG space.
How long have you been with The Planet Group? What have been some of the highlights for you since you've been at Planet Interactive in particular?
I am about to hit my 1st anniversary with Planet Interactive! This has been a fun journey as we shape our team and culture, reposition ourselves in the marketplace, and bring a different level of service to our client list.
What in your mind sets Planet Interactive apart from the competition?
I think there are a lot of things that set Planet Interactive apart from our competitors. We are a boutique firm with the power of a global company behind us, which is a rare combination. We also have a powerhouse internal team full of specialized sales and recruiters with decades of experience. We have worked at other staffing agencies and been embedded in-house at large companies. I think we have this dynamic range that helps us understand what our clients and candidates need.
You primarily focus on the Retail and Consumer Package Goods space. What is the role of creative, digital, and marketing in this sector, and why, in your opinion, is it so essential?
My first and second loves behind my family and friends. Early on in my staffing career, I gravitated towards these industries because of the fast-paced environment. There is something about placing great talent at brands that you can find in your closet, pantry, on top of your bathroom counter, and in your local store. The demand from internal creative, marketing, and digital teams to develop world-class campaigns that drive sales, innovation, and brand awareness takes a lot of motivation and hard work.
What’s your current assessment of the creative, digital and marketing landscape, particularly as it relates to the industries you focus on? Any predictions as we head into 2025?
2025 is going to be an interesting year for the retail and CPG space. There are going to be key areas such as retail media and AI that continue to take front and center when it comes to where large budgets are being spent. On the flip side, many leaders that I follow and listen to are sharing insights on how they are finding new ways to engage with customers through social commerce, organic social listening, and bringing an omnichannel approach to their brand strategies.
P.S. I highly recommend listening to these podcasts in your spare time: Brave Commerce, The CPG Guys, The CPG Scoop, and The Modern Retail Podcast.
What advice would you give to individuals aspiring to enter the creative staffing industry?
Great question! Honestly, I've seen people be successful in this industry from all sorts of backgrounds. They have come from the advertising space, PR, corporate marketing, and heck even education. You must be dedicated, patient, and a good listener to be in any sort of staffing and those key qualities resonate with a lot of people.
If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
EASY. Now, let me preface by saying that no I am not named after Elizabeth Bennet, but I would love to have dinner with the woman who created her character, Jane Austen. I am a bookworm at heart and my favorite novels are under her penmanship.
What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long work week?
My favorite way to unwind after a long work week is to simply spend time with my family or take my dog Raleigh for a walk. Maybe if I am lucky, I go find a margarita and some TexMex 😊
If you could teach a course on any topic or subject, what would it be?
An entire course on Taylor Alison Swift. The music. The Era’s Tour. The fashion. Everything.
What would you say is the best part of your job?
The best part and my favorite part will always be developing solutions to a client’s problem. It is as satisfying as finishing a puzzle or making a cake.
Lastly, do you have any New Year’s Resolutions for the Year 2025?
I’m never the best with New Year’s Resolutions, but I have been thinking about trying a new one this year. I want to enjoy and savor the quiet moments a bit more. Take more walks. Read more books. Make more yummy meals.
